ICL surgery is a lens-based refractive surgery alternative that corrects poor vision by introducing an intraocular lens to the eye instead of altering the shape of the cornea, as with LASIK surgery or Photorefactive Keratectomy (PRK).
An Implantable Collamer Lens or ICL is essentially a contact lens that is implanted in the eye. It is an artificial lens that works in harmony with your eye to correct your vision. The lens is implanted into the eye, right behind the iris, during a 20-30 minute procedure. The implantable collamer lens (ICL) is a great vision correction choice for patients with thin corneas or dry eye and who have moderate to severe nearsightedness (-2.50 to -20.0), with or without astigmatism.
The EVO® ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens) is an advanced soft-material lens, slightly smaller than a typical contact lens. It provides UV protection and permanent vision correction while giving patients a quality of vision that is sharper and clearer than can be achieved with glasses or contacts.
The EVO® ICL™ is meant to remain in place as long as you are satisfied with your vision. A doctor can remove the lenses without compromising your vision, if your vision changes or you’d simply like to remove them.

The EVO ICL is a great option for many patients looking to correct their nearsightedness. If your doctor determines that ICL may be a good fit for you and your eye’s needs, you’ll be scheduled for a pre-operative appointment where we’ll use our suite of technology to get an accurate measurement of your eyes (from the front to the back) and assess your prescription. It’s important that we get these measurements to ensure the size of the ICL lens is just the right fit for you!
The ICL procedure is an outpatient procedure and is performed on both eyes on the same day. The procedure typically takes about 20 minutes but you’ll be in the surgery center for a bit longer for recovery. Recovery from the ICL procedure is minimally invasive with most patients noticing improvements in their vision almost immediately after surgery and returning to their normal activities 24 to 48 hours after surgery. However, complete visual improvement can take up to 10 days, and full recovery can take around four weeks. Talk to your surgeon about any specific questions and concerns you may have, and follow post-operative instructions.

The EVO ICL procedure is about 20 to 30 minutes total. To prepare for the eye surgery, you will be given eye drops and other medications. Once in surgery, your surgeon will create a small opening for lens implantation. The lens is carefully folded and inserted through that small incision opening. Your surgeon will then carefully position the lens based on your eye’s anatomy. Simple as that!
The cost of ICL surgery can vary depending on several factors, but it typically ranges from $3,500 to $5,000 per eye.
Vision correction with the EVO ICL is an outpatient procedure that typically takes 20 to 30 minutes. After an initial exam with your ophthalmologist to determine that the EVO ICL is right for you, you will schedule your procedure. On the day of the procedure, your eyes will be numbed with an anesthetic eye drop and your refractive surgeon will implant the ICL between the iris (colored part of the eye) and the natural lens. Your surgeon will likely schedule a follow-up appointment the same day as the procedure
